ORLAN in Long Beach

Orlan the supreme being of carnal art visited CSULB yesterday. We get a lot of visiting artists but Orlan was a true pleasure to behold. The hair, the French, the implants! But the rallying cheer that got me most exicted was her statement on Art, here is what I remember. Correct me if I'm wrong.




Art is to shake up thinking
Art is not for comfort, not for decoration
not for giving us what we already know
not for hanging above the couch
Art is a social project
It is to explore the out of bounds
even if it is not accepted.
