Transfixed

This was my first visit to the Orange Lounge, OCMA's new media gallery at South Coast Plaza. I was pretty impressed with the set up. They had a nice collection of early chris burden videos, a couple projectors playing Sheryl Dunn's "Come Mute" and a large plasma screen with Kent Anderson Butler's "Lament" in the front room. Always on view is their permanent video collection from a group of computer terminals. In the back room, (yes there is a back room so don't miss it) was an excellent response to Joseph Beuy's "I like America and America likes me" as well as a tony oursler which is always fun (if it is your first time seeeing one).

My video class is working on a performance based work right now so this show is highly relevant. Don't miss Douglas Gordans work in the permanent collection as it is an excellent example.
